Resident Cats, Lifelong Care
Paka Mkazi is Nairobi Feline Sanctuary’s structured resident-cat placement programme. It gives suitable rescued cats the opportunity to leave sanctuary life for secure, caring business and institutional environments where they can live with greater freedom and truly belong.
Cats are carefully assessed, sterilised and normally placed in bonded pairs. They are matched with suitable hotels, farms, warehouses, institutions and other secure premises.
Every host provides lifelong food, clean water, shelter and veterinary care. Nairobi Feline Sanctuary provides assessment, matching, placement support and continuing welfare oversight.
Businesses and institutions may apply to host a bonded pair. Individuals, businesses and organisations may also sponsor a placement for an approved establishment.

They may become familiar companions to staff and visitors, while all interaction remains voluntary and guided by each cat’s comfort and welfare.

BENEFITS FOR CATS AND HOSTS

NFS continues welfare monitoring and placement support.
HOST RESPONSIBILITIES
Every approved Paka Mkazi host must provide:
- A secure, appropriate and caring resident environment
- A named primary caregiver and backup caregiver
- Daily food and clean water
- Weatherproof shelter and safe sleeping areas
- A secure acclimatisation space
- Financial responsibility for routine and emergency veterinary care
- Immediate reporting to NFS of illness, injury, disappearance or significant changes at the premises
- Permission for NFS to conduct welfare monitoring
- A commitment never to abandon, transfer or relocate the cats without NFS approval
- A signed Paka Mkazi Host Agreement
Veterinary care remains the host’s financial responsibility. NFS may coordinate or provide veterinary care at cost. All health concerns and treatment must be reported to NFS.
NFS may decline an application where there are significant traffic, poisoning, predator, machinery, security or management-continuity risks.
Sponsor a Paka Mkazi Placement
Individuals, businesses and organisations may sponsor the placement of a bonded pair with an approved host.
Sponsorship supports the cats’ assessment, preparation, matching, transportation, placement and initial welfare monitoring. It covers the initial placement process, while the approved host assumes lifelong responsibility for food, shelter and veterinary care.
