Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern access to and use of the Nairobi Feline Sanctuary website.

By using this website or submitting information through it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or its forms.

“NFS”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Nairobi Feline Sanctuary.

Website purpose

This website provides information about NFS, its animal-welfare work, programmes, available forms and ways to offer support.

We aim to keep the information accurate and current. However, animal-welfare circumstances, programme capacity, veterinary needs, costs, available animals and partnership opportunities can change without notice.

NFS may correct, update, remove or replace website information at any time.

Not veterinary or emergency advice

Website information is provided for general educational and organisational purposes. It is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Website forms, emails and WhatsApp messages may not be monitored continuously. Submitting a report does not create an emergency-response service or guarantee an immediate response.

Where an animal requires immediate veterinary attention, do not delay seeking an available veterinary or emergency service while waiting for NFS to respond.

Form submissions

When submitting a website form, you agree to:

  • Provide information that is accurate and complete
  • Use the form only for its stated purpose
  • Provide additional information where reasonably requested
  • Avoid submitting false, misleading, abusive or unlawful material
  • Have permission to submit photographs, documents or information relating to another person or private property
  • Inform NFS if important information changes

Submitting a form does not guarantee acceptance, approval, admission, funding, rescue, TNVR assistance, adoption, placement, sponsorship, partnership, volunteering or a sanctuary visit.

NFS may decline, defer, redirect or close a request according to animal welfare, suitability, available resources, location, urgency and programme capacity.

Animal reports and requests for assistance

NFS assesses rescue, sanctuary-care and TNVR requests individually.

A report does not transfer responsibility for an animal to NFS. Responsibility transfers only where NFS has expressly agreed to receive the animal and the handover has taken place.

Do not bring or leave an animal at the sanctuary at Riara Ridge, in the Tigoni area, along Nazareth–Limuru Road, Kiambu County, without prior written approval.

NFS may refer a request to another suitable provider or suggest an alternative course of action where appropriate. A referral does not guarantee that another organisation or professional will accept the case.

Adoption listings and applications

Adoption listings are subject to change. A listed cat may be withdrawn, reserved, adopted, found unsuitable for adoption or moved to another appropriate programme at any time.

Submitting an application does not reserve a cat or guarantee approval. Adoption decisions are based on the welfare and individual needs of the cat and are not necessarily made on a first-come, first-served basis.

NFS may:

  • Request identification, landlord consent or additional information
  • Conduct a telephone interview
  • Arrange a home visit or video tour
  • Recommend a different cat
  • Decline an application without creating an obligation to place an animal

An adoption becomes final only after all required checks have been completed, NFS has approved the application, the adoption agreement has been signed and the cat has been formally handed over.

The current adoption contribution will be shown through the external adoption app. The contribution supports animal care and is not a purchase price.

The external adoption app may also have its own terms and privacy policy.

TNVR, Paka Mkazi and other programmes

Submitting a TNVR, Paka Mkazi, sponsorship, partnership or volunteer form does not guarantee acceptance or participation.

NFS may assess:

  • The welfare and suitability of the animal
  • The proposed environment or property
  • Community or property-management cooperation
  • Veterinary and transport requirements
  • Safety, staffing and available funding
  • The responsibilities of the applicant or partner

Programme conditions may be recorded in a separate agreement. If a programme-specific agreement conflicts with these general website terms, the signed programme agreement will apply to that programme.

Sanctuary visits

The sanctuary is not open for walk-in visits.

A visit is confirmed only when NFS has given written approval and provided arrival instructions. NFS may postpone, restrict, shorten or cancel a visit where animal welfare, weather, safety, staffing or operational conditions require it.

Visitors must follow staff instructions and remain within authorised areas.

Do not publish or share the sanctuary’s precise map pin or arrival instructions without NFS approval.

Donations and sponsorship

Donations and sponsorship contributions are voluntary and must be made only through payment methods confirmed by NFS.

General donations may be used where the current need is greatest.

Where a contribution is made for a named animal, medical appeal or programme, NFS will use it for the stated purpose wherever reasonably possible. If the need has already been met, circumstances change or the appeal receives more than required, the remaining funds may be used for a similar animal-welfare purpose or the area of greatest welfare need.

Sponsorship does not create ownership, adoption rights, exclusive access or authority over veterinary, placement or operational decisions.

Requests concerning payment errors, duplicate payments or refunds will be considered individually, subject to applicable law and the rules of the relevant payment provider.

Food and supplies must not be delivered without prior arrangement and confirmation that the items are currently needed.

External websites and services

This website may contain links to external platforms, including adoption, payment and social-media services.

NFS does not control external websites and cannot guarantee their availability, security, accuracy or practices. Accessing an external service is at your discretion and may be subject to separate terms and privacy policies.

A link does not necessarily mean that NFS endorses every statement, product or service offered by the external provider.

Website content and intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the NFS name, logos, programme identities, text, graphics, photographs, videos and other original website content belong to NFS or are used with permission.

You may share links to public NFS webpages and social-media posts. You may not copy, alter, reproduce, sell, impersonate, commercially exploit or falsely attribute NFS content without permission.

Media, academic or institutional requests to reuse substantial content should be sent to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, forms or stored information
  • Introduce malicious code or interfere with website operation
  • Use automated systems to overload, scrape or misuse the website

Website availability

NFS does not guarantee that the website, forms or external links will always be available, secure or free from errors.

The website may be suspended or changed for maintenance, security, operational or other reasonable purposes.

Limitation of responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, NFS is not responsible for losses arising solely from:

  • Reliance on general website information instead of obtaining appropriate professional advice
  • Delays or interruptions in website or form availability
  • Inaccurate information submitted by a website user
  • The actions, content or security of an external website
  • A request or application not being accepted
  • Events outside NFS’s reasonable control

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
